I’m Joe. Welcome to my blog for adventurous people who love Thailand, or have always dreamed of experiencing Thailand. Whether you want to live in Thailand, travel to Thailand, or just learn some interesting Joe Nattres on motorcycle in Chiang Mai, Thailandthings about Thailand, this site is for you.

I first learned about Thailand when I was 7 years old. That’s when I saw our neighbors’ slideshow of their trip to Thailand. I was blown away! I had never seen anything like it! I can still remember seeing slides of the golden spires of the Grand Palace in Bangkok. (And that was many years ago!)

It was an amazing sight for a young country boy growing up on the other side of the world. I knew that night that I had to go to Thailand. I just had to see this incredibly exotic place that looked like another world!

Since then, I have traveled all over Thailand, enjoyed numerous adventures in many parts of the country, lived in Thailand, worked here, and married here. I love Thailand, Thai culture, Thai food, and my many incredible experiences here.

Every time I’ve left Thailand, it has been with a strong feeling of disappointment, and a longing for the next time that I could return. I still feel this way, and I have filled a couple of passports with Thai entrance and exit stamps.

After many years, many trips, living here, leaving here, and always returning again, I am still fascinated with this country. I now have Thai family and feel deeply connected to Thailand and Thai culture, as much as a farang (foreigner), can.

Why I created this site

I created this site as a way to share my experiences in Thailand and to answer many of the questions that people have asked me through the years about this wonderful place.

What’s Thailand really like? Why do you keep going back to Thailand? What’s real Thai food like? Is it true what they say about…? How can I live in Thailand, too?

I always love to talk about Thailand. I decided it was time to write about my passion for Thailand and put it out for the world to read.

I would like to tell you about the Thailand that I know and experience, and provide information and insight into ways that you, too, can live in Thailand today.

Who this site is for

This site is an information resource for people who want to live in or travel to Thailand. Thailand is a beautiful, exotic country where the pace of life is slow and relaxed, the people are friendly, the food is amazing, and life and travel are still very affordable.

There is much information available on the Internet about Thailand, but it takes a lot of time to sort through all of it to find useful and interesting information. Most of us nowadays are very busy and don’t have enough time to wade through the mass of information out there to find what we need quickly. This is especially true when we are planning a move, or a trip, abroad.

Thailand is my passion. This site is an expanding resource of information to help you live, travel and enjoy adventures in Thailand.

On this site, you will find information about these topics, and more:

(If you don’t find the information you are looking for, check back to find future posts, or sign up for my newsletter or RSS feed to keep current the latest content.)

  • Where to go and what to do in Thailand
  • How to travel around Thailand
  • What it’s like to live in Thailand today, from my personal experiences and adventures living and traveling here
  • Ways that you, too, can live in Thailand (how to obtain a visa, find work, a place to live, etc.)
  • Thai food (what it is, where to find the best, and how to make it)
  • Rural life in Isaan, the northeast region of Thailand, including the daily workings of our small organic farm and garden
  • Thai culture (how it is different from western cultures, things to know to make your stay here more enjoyable for you and the Thai people you meet)

I am very passionate about the people, culture, food, and natural environment of Thailand. I have a lot of fun in this country, and at the same time, I am very passionate about preserving Thai culture and the environment, here, too. I do my best to “walk softly” as a visitor and newcomer to Thailand.

I am happy to share my passion and experiences with anyone, especially those who come to Thailand with respect for Thai people, Thai culture, and the natural beauty of Thailand.

I hope you enjoy my blog.

Please leave your comments at the end of my blog posts. I read all comments and will answer your questions in the comments section or in future blog posts.
